National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE)

1 Yersin Street
Hanoi, Vietnam

The National Insitute of Hygiene and Epidemiology is Vietnam’s leading institute for the surveillance, control and prevention of infectious diseases. Dr. Connor has established a collaborative relationship with Dr. Phung Dac Cam, Head of the Department of Bacteriology in surveillance for Cyclospora infections in Vietnam. This project, which began in July, 1997, has surveyed the Me tri commune (an agrarian village of 13,000 north of Hanoi) as well as hospitals and clinics for foreigners in Hanoi. (For a copy of the abstract "Prevalence of Cyclospora as an Etiology of Diarrhea in Vietnam" presented at the 5th International Conference on Travel Medicine in Geneva, please click here.)

In October, 1997 Dr. Connor began a second collaborative research project with Professor Ha Van Mao at the Tran Hung Dao Central Hospital in Hanoi investigating the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infections and its relationship to gastric cancer in Vietnam.
