The CIWEC Clinic Travel Medicine Center is the best source of Western medical care in Nepal and one of the most famous destination travel medicine clinics in the world. The clinic, established in 1982 has met the need for a Western standard clinic to treat foreign tourists, diplomats and aid workers in Nepal. Since that time the clinic has focused on the health problems of foreigners in Nepal and has developed an international reputation for research on diarrheal diseases. The clinic is known internationally both for the high level of care afforded to patients and for its reliable research and information about the health risks in Nepal. The CIWEC Clinic was the first clinic situated in a developing country that was selected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to participate in its global surveillance program for emerging diseases among travelers. Dr. Connor has been involved in several collaborative research projects including studies of clinical illness and pathology of Cyclospora infections. Dr. Connor has collaborated with David R. Shlim, M.D., Medical Director of the CIWEC Clinic on a course for travel medicine physicians and nurses (Medicine for Adventure Travel) held each year in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
